In January 2018, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the CDC published a report with updated recommendations to prevent hepatitis B infection.  The report includes recommendations on: 

  1. testing for pregnant women, including those who are hepatitis B positive
  2. universal hepatitis B vaccination within 24 hours of birth, followed by completion of the vaccine series
  3. vaccination of children, adolescents, and adults, according to recommended schedules and/or risks
  4. post-exposure prophylaxis
